The (Dutch) Advisory Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (AWTI) is proud to inform you that our advisory report on open science is now available in a full English version: Dare to share - Open access and data sharing in science. The report can be accessed through our website:
The original Dutch version of the advisory report (Durven delen) was presented in January to State Secretary Sander Dekker, who had requested AWTI’s advice with a view to the Dutch open science agenda during the EU presidency.
The key message of our advisory report is that in order to realise the full potential of open access to scholarly publications one should also invest in making that knowledge ‘accessible’ for society and businesses: it should not only be findable and available, but also be intelligible and presented in a user-friendly way.
Concerning research data sharing the AWTI found that expanding the practice of storing research data and sharing it, will benefit science, society and business, but that this requires a step-by-step approach that takes all relevant interests and concerns properly into account.
The Dutch version of the advisory report “Dare to share” has received a lot of attention and endorsements, and the report’s findings and ideas will also be used at the Open Science Conference that is being organised as part of the Dutch EU Presidency on April 4-5 in Amsterdam. Co-author of the report and former AWTI member Prof. Luc Soete will chair a session on improving the social impact of science at this conference.
