ESRC has tough test on first-use data - prove you need it!

"The Economic and Social Research Council, which is the primary U.K. funding agency for these areas, recently issued a data policy that goes well beyond the scope of the NSF, NIH, and Wellcome Trust requirements. The ESRC requires not only the public release of data but also that investigators who wish to create new data must “demonstrate that no suitable data are available for re-use” (Economic and Social Research Council, 2010, p. 3).”
